The Rock House Story

Why is it called Rock House?

Amber and her husband Milliasse have been having a lot of discussions about houses and ownership of houses etc. Our new home in Ambovombe Madagascar is wooden framed and apparently in Madagascar if you have a wooden framed home you do not need to have official paperwork about ownership. That is only for what Milliasse describes as a ‘rock house’ or a cement home.

I told Milliasse one day we will own a rock house in Madagascar together. Then recently, when our paperwork with the lawyers was finished I exclaimed “we have our rock house in Goderich!”. Then I realized, “hmmm, Rock House B&B sounds like a good name for the business”. And that is how the name was born.

We also like to add little “rock” touches. There are painted rocks in the garden out front. We are in the plans of building a rock spa in the back yard – a natural grotto-style hot tub.
